Château de la Maltroye is today a flagship in the region. Jean-Pierre's modern approach has brought forth innovations that, with razor-sharp precision, capture a refined expression of what the house's terroir can produce. The white wines are filled with fireworks and gunpowder, ultra-crisp minerality, and underlying citrus notes that can be described as unforgettable. The labels already speak of classic wines that have been reinterpreted. It also creeps into one's mind after tasting the first glass. Jean-Pierre is a former aerospace engineer and the second generation of the Cournut family at the estate, which his father took over in 1970.
Jean-Pierre is a avid collector of modern art, a passion evident throughout the property, both outdoors and indoors, from bottom to top. He skillfully allows the inspiration of art to seep through the cracks and crevices in the walls, as well as in the wine.

The impressive château building dates from the 18th Century although its cellars are around 400 years older. The château lies at the southern end of the village, overlooking the Premier Cru La Maltroie vineyard, in which it has a 2.5 hectare (six acre) monopole plot: the Clos du Château de la Maltroye, containing both Pinot Noir (nearly 1.4 hectares/3.4 acres) and Chardonnay (just over one hectare/2.5 acres).
