The Wine Cellar Insider/Jeff Leve tasting notes 92-93/100 (April 2012): "Espresso, plum, floral, truffle, licorice, and chocolate mint are found in the aromas. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sweet, round, and lush".

Wine Enthusiast tasting notes 92/100 (January 2014): "Great juicy black fruits shine through this rich and complex wine that shows considerable style. The aftertaste is full of fresher acidity and juicy berry fruits. Drink from 2017".

Gismondi on Wine/Anthony Gismondi and Stuart Tobe tasting notes 91/100 (October 2014): "Smoky, coffee, peppery, vanilla, meaty, black cherry, leather, barnyard aromas. Riper, rounder palate and juicy with suave tannins. Black cherry, coffee, smoky, briar, olive, five spice, peppery, tobacco flavours with a meaty, barnyard streak. Good intensity and balance if a bit oaky and bitter at this point. More modern style but needs three to five years to integrate. Good value in the Bordeaux spectrum".

Blend:
60% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Ageing potential:
More than 15 years.

Ratings vintage 2018:

Château Canon La Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B is located on the outskirts of the medieval town of Saint-Émilion, at the Southern foot of the slope. Château Canon La Gaffelière is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Émilion and has had a fine reputation for over 150 years.
The château was acquired by Joseph-Hubert von Neipperg in 1971. Starting in 1984, when Stephan von Neipperg took over the property, all the winery buildings were entirely renovated and new offices were constructed. Located on the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, the property has been ranked First Classified Growth upon the new classification of Saint-Émilion in 2012.
