2016 Clos Fourtet Grand Cru
France / Bordeaux / Saint-Emilion 1. Grand Cru B Rouge
2016 Clos Fourtet Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B.
Jean Claude Berrouet tasting notes: "A deep, glowing garnet hue with ruby glints. The nose has good aromatic intensity (a trait of this vintage) and displays firstly a range of floral notes, in which violets come to the fore. Then, black fruit aromas come through, especially blackcurrant, followed by aromas of cigar-box. The palate is homogeneous with a dense texture, underpinned by coated tannins which provide unctuosity to the whole, while a mineral aspect adds complexity and brings an expression of finesse and elegance. Great aromatic freshness lengthens the finish with mingling black fruit and peppermint notes and outstanding, lingering length of flavour".
Andreas Larsson tasting notes 98/100: "Pure nose, very chalky with notes of ripe dark berries, cassis, cherry, nougat, tobacco, and fine oak. Ample and dense structure with a remarkable concentration – a bright freshness underneath, savoury and broad with good volume, finely chiseled tannins, layers of wild berry fruit and a very long grippy finish. Excellent".
Blend:
90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc.

The 20ha vineyard forms a single plot, planted upon the highest slopes of Western Saint-Émilion. Constructed from the very rock upon which it stands, the château and its surrounding wall (hence clos) are intimate and unassuming. Ever since the beginning of the classification in 1956, Clos Fourtet has been a member of the elite Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion.
