DOMAINE JACQUES PRIEUR

Domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault has since 1868 created one of Burgundy's most unique and diverse mosaics of terroirs. Today, it has become the - probably only - property that owns Grand Cru vineyards in almost all the major villages in both Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits: From north to south, it includes Chambertin, Musigny, Clos Vougeot, Échezeaux, Corton, Meursault, and Montrachet.  Read more

Three of these vineyards are monopolies. The portfolio also includes many of the greatest 1er Cru vineyards, including those in Meursault. The history of the estate began in the 1860s when Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau got married. They first opened the wine and spirits business Maison Duvergey-Taboureau before acquiring the property in Meursault - where the present-day Domaine Jacques Prieur is located. From the end of the 19th century into the 20th century, the family began investing in winemaking and buying parcels in the greatest vineyards.

Marie Taboureau's sister's grandson, Jacques Prieur, inherited the properties and managed the estate with his mother. He was one of the initiators of the revival of the Conférie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1934. In 1956, the estate was named after him. After a period of decline in the 1980s, several local families bought into the estate. The Labruyère family from Beaujolais became majority shareholders.

Domaine Jacques Prieur now has 21 hectares of vineyards, including nine Grand Crus and 14 Premier Crus (1er Crus).
