Champagne J.M. Labruyère
Champagne J.M. Labruyère is located in the Champagne district of Verzenay and boasts nearly six hectares of Grand Cru vineyards, situated near the towns of Verzenay and Verzy in the Montagne de Reims area. The vineyards are planted with 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay.
The house produces four Grand Cru champagnes: Prologue Extra Brut, Paradoxe Blanc de Noirs, Anthologie Champagne Rosé, and Page Blanche Blanc de Blancs. In 1873, Verzenay was unofficially listed among the top three Crus in Champagne. Therefore, the Labruyère family took inspiration from the village, nestled in the beautiful Montagne de Reims, when they began their champagne production. The place is steeped in history; the vineyards have been celebrated since Gallo-Roman times. In the ninth century, it was called Virdunacus, named after the Latin Viridium Sanum, meaning "green area". The area was partially destroyed during World War I but managed to preserve its two iconic buildings: the windmill located on Mont Boeuf and the famous lighthouse on Mont Rizan, which is now a wine museum.
Out of the 320 wine-growing villages in Champagne, only 17 are classified as Grand Cru municipalities. With its 286 meters, Montagne de Reims protects Verzenay's vineyards, known for their Pinot Noir, which imparts champagne with a truly unique character, structure, and aging potential.
Champagne J.M. Labruyère possesses some of the best "climats" in Montagne de Reims: Les Rochelles, Les Champs Saint-Martin, Les Longues Raies, Les Champs Romés, and Les Potences.
When Edouard Labruyère embarked on his champagne adventure, he saw opportunities to produce champagne using the same techniques as in Meursault and Pomerol. Both in the vineyards and in the cellar. Since 2012, he has collaborated with Chef de Cave and Chef de Vigne Vincent Van Waesberghe and Nadine Gublin (oenologist from Domaine Jacques Prieur). In this new chapter, they pursue their philosophy: To discover and revive mythical French terroirs.
Edouard Labruyère says, "Grand Cru vineyards have the potential to produce iconic wines, and only the best grapes from exclusive parcels will be used to make them."
