Domaine Henri Rebourseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny has a cherry red appearance, presenting notes of raspberry and spice on the nose. An elegant, tanninrich structure with a lang and intense finish.
Jacky Rigaud in Gevrey-Chambertin Joyau du Terroir: "The Fonteny is ane of those terroirs that seems to be almost inexplicably touched by grace".
The climat is situated upon crinoidal limestone (limestone formed with fossils), which in certain places is less than 15cm from the surface. This climat is full of contrasts, stretching from Les Ruchottes to the lower part of the Combe of Lavaux, west of Gevrey-Chambertin. A steep bank of several dozen metres separates the upper part of the climat from its lower portion.
The domaine's plot is entirely protected from the north by the treelined grounds of an imposing residence. Its position at the bottom of the slope benefits from a generous soil which confers surprising vigour upon this vine.
Ratings vintage 2020:
- Inside Burgundy/Jasper Morris: 91-94/100.
- Falstaff: 92/100 "Ripest black cherry plays on the nose with a touch of volatile lift. The palate nonetheless holds vivid juiciness and is a full display of fleshy, ripe, generous but fresh fruit. This is backed by gently astringent, fine tannins and real, juicy freshness".
