2022 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet Village
France / Burgundy / Cote de Beaune / Chassagne-Montrachet Village Blanc
Chassagne-Montrachet Village from Château de la Maltroye offers its richness, finess, and freshness of Chardonnay, as well as minerality, white flowers and fruit aromas (peach, apricot). Grapes blended from several parcels located on Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. 20% aged in new oak barrels for 12 months.
Jean-Pierre Cournut unequivocally called 2022 "a great vintage". It is more precise than 2020 and more readable as well in terms of the underlying terroir.
Burghound.com/AllenMeadows tasting notes (June 2024): "This is aromatically similar to the Bourgogne Chardonnay but with a touch of rosemary oil added in. By contrast, on the palate there is notably better volume and concentration to the medium weight flavors that coat the mouth with sappy dry extract on the balanced finale that also displays a touch of bitter zest character. This is very good for its level and recommended. 2028+".
