Jean-Pierre Cournut unequivocally called 2022 "a great vintage". It is more precise than 2020 and more readable as well in terms of the underlying terroir.
Burghound.com/AllenMeadows tasting notes (June 2024): "A phenolic character, think olive oil nuances, is present on the ripe white orchard fruit and floral aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to bother mentioning. There is excellent volume to the caressing but punchy medium-bodied flavors that flash a touch of minerality on the balanced, clean, and nicely dry finale. This could use better depth but a few years of bottle aging should help. 80% of the blend is from the Lieu-dit Ez Crets within Maltroie and the rest is from Fairendes within Boudriotte. 2029+".
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru wines are made under the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, from grapes grown in officially recognized 1er Cru vineyards. They are permitted to bear the specific climat name on their labels.
Cuvées made from more than one of these vineyards are simply labelled as Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru. Such wines are quite rare, however.
It is the whites in particular which have earned the appellation its reputation; it is regarded as producing some of the world's most-respected wines. For much of the 20th Century, red wines formed the majority of the wine produced here, but the increasing fame of the local Chardonnay led the commune to shift its focus to white wines.
