1.5-liter Magnum bottle.
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée Magnum from Château de la Maltroye.
High on the slopes just south of Chassagne-Montrachet village, La Romanée often delivers mineral but fleshy, well-regarded Chardonnay-based wines; typically medium-bodied with fruity notes of peach, almond and a little honeysuckle.
Jean-Pierre Cournut unequivocally called 2022 "a great vintage". It is more precise than 2020 and more readable as well in terms of the underlying terroir.
Burghound.com/Allen Meadows tasting notes 95/100 + "Don't Miss" (June 2024): "There is almost no topsoil in this particular parcel and the vines grow into fragmented, heavily fissured rock. A background suggestion of the exotic is present on the ripe and super-fresh aromas of spice, mineral reduction, white flower, and an equally discreet application of wood. There is superb density to the gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors that also flash an intense minerality on the powerful, serious, compact, and strikingly long finish. lf you can find it, buy it as this is a knockout. 2032+".
The name La Romanée (Gypsy) is a familiar one along the Côte d'Or. This vineyard's wines should not be confused with those from Gevrey-Chambertin's 1er Cru site, or the much more prestigious La Romanée, Romanée-Conti and Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Crus in Vosne-Romanée.
